Screen Readers
Freeware and shareware have been responsible for the rapid development of software in general. There are fewer examples
in this category of our list but we were especially impressed with the Read Please 2003 freeware for the Read Please
appears to have valuable applications to the person with a cognative disorder. Highlighting as it reads is a great
benefit for the person who has difficulty reading or learning to do so.(
Download it here, or view the manual)
Although the company calls their Read Please Plus 2003 Commercial Software; we have included it in our category Low Cost Software.
It is an improved version of Read Please 2003 with optional additional voices at a very modest increase in price. It uses the same
user manual as the freeware version. It can be downloaded from the same site as a 30day free trial which can be converted to permanent
software after downloading or ordered on CD.
KEYRead is a screenreader that can be used to surf the world wide web. It will read whatever is on the screen whether from your browser, notepad, Word or other application. It comes from the innovator in disability applications R.D. Cooper and Associates. Beta Testers can receive a free copy for their participation. The trial version and instructions can be downloaded from the developer's site.
